Manna Food Center Stuff-A-Bus!
Manna Food Center of Rockville, a food storage facility in Montgomery County is
experiencing a twenty percent increase in the number of families turning to them
for food assistance.
On Wednesday May 14th, 2008, more than 40 girls and coaches from Girls on the Run of Montgomery County helped Manna Food Center of Rockville Stuff-a-Bus with non-perishable food. They assisted in loading donated food onto four Ride On Montgomery County Transit busses parked at each Whole Foods Market locations. The girls, along with their coaches, informed shoppers about the Stuff-a- Bus event and encouraged them to buy extra food to put on the busses to help feed our hungry neighbors.
In addition, Girls on the Run of Montgomery County collected over 200 pounds of food at its 5k Fun Run on May 18th which was donated to Manna. Angela Whitmal of Manna wrote to GOTR and said in her letter:
Thanks so much for your help and the help of all of the Girls on the Run participants with Manna Food Center 's Stuff-A-Bus event. It was such a great day for Manna. Nearly 10,000 pounds of food were collected on that day. Wow! We have you to thank for this. In addition, we expect to receive a donation from Whole Foods in excess of $20,000 representing 5% of their sales for that day. We couldn't have done this without you. Please accept our heartfelt thanks and extend our gratitude to all at Girls on the Run who participated. We look forward to working with you again in the future.
